Introduction

I’m new to this.

Not just to being a blogger, or a podcaster.

I’m new to the game of soccer.

I had my stretch of playing the game growing up. I was never a very good player, but I have great memories of playing with some of my best friends year after year.

But there came a time when soccer no longer fit in my list of priorities. It faded away and never could hold my interest for long. Sure, I casually followed the World Cup along with another few billion people, and I occasionally played FIFA so I knew how it worked. But for most of my life, soccer has been on the periphery.

I have always loved sports of all kinds. Golf is perhaps my first sporting love, and not just watching it on TV or playing 18 holes. I have grown to love the history of the game, the artistry in the design of a course, and the purity of what the sport represented a hundred years ago. Golf is a sport that fosters community and brings people together.

I am coming to realize that soccer is much the same. It is a game rich with history and interesting stories to tell. It is a game played on pitches across the globe that have been home to soccer matches for a hundred years. And it is a game which brings communities together.

Naturally the Premier League and other European leagues and tournaments collectively vacuum up most of the world’s attention to the sport. If you want the latest transfer market rumors or Champions League analysis, this is not the place for you. Instead, we seek to provide a fresh look at the world of soccer, with a special focus on soccer in America but also extending across the globe.

For being located in the States, I have found that very few people are in tune with the MLS on a regular basis. Certainly the arrival of the world’s best player has drawn some interest in the sport, even among the casual sports fan. But as I have begun to follow the MLS more closely in the past year, I have come to find there are many more stories to tell than the league gets credit for.

Some in the MLS universe are aging stars who are looking to cash in on their name and accomplishments. Others are journeymen who love the sport and will play wherever they have the chance. Still others are up-and-coming talents with dreams of playing on the world’s stage.

The Corner Arc

We want to identify the stories to be told about the MLS, both on and off the pitch. We want to help people understand the tangled web of this global sport. And we want to highlight the growing communities of support for the franchises which make up this great game. There is a spark that is growing into a flame, one which could set the whole country ablaze with a renewed love of this great sport.

At the Corner Arc, we seek to provide a fun and accessible perspective on the world’s most popular sport, growing people’s awareness and enjoyment of the game. We aim to highlight the achievements of soccer’s current stars, while also introducing fans to the unique stories of the game’s emerging talent.

Soccer is a sport that brings people together. People desire to be a part of something bigger than themselves. They want to follow their team from humble beginnings to the pinnacle of victory. They want to wear their team’s colors with pride, because those colors don’t just represent a round ball being kicked into a big net. The colors represent the very fabric of where they come from. The colors are synonymous with their hometown.

So whether you are entrenched in the game, or are just looking to learn the lingo, or are anywhere in between, you are welcome here. We hope to build a community of soccer fans who can help us tell the story of what makes the world’s sport so special.

I’m new to this, but I’m ready for the journey. Let’s play a full 90.
